Thank you for visiting my website.  I am Alan Cottington and A.C. Tuition is my full-time tuition business. 

I am an experienced, qualified teacher having completed my Initial Teacher Training at London South Bank University in 2006 (PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status). Over the following 15 years, I worked continuously in three UK schools where I held various posts including class teacher, key stage leader, and SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator). 
 

In 2016, after the arrival of my son, I started offering private tuition part-time as a way to increase my income.  In that first year I tutored 4 students and very quickly found 1:1 tuition to be professionally rewarding and enjoyable. I pride myself on building positive relationships with my clients.  In fact, two of the four students I initially worked with continued tuition with me for over 5 years where I supported and coached them through the final phase of their primary schooling, the transition to secondary school and onto GCSEs.

Over the next five years, my client base increased to the point that I reached capacity and so in 2022, made the decision to leave the traditional classroom setting and dedicate myself full-time to private tuition. This led to the establishment of A.C. Tuition in September of the same year. 

My expertise lies in mathematics and English tuition for Key Stages 1-4 (ages 5-16), as well as 11+ preparation and Public School entrance exams.

I also have a keen interest and experience in supporting children with additional educational needs. Professionally, I have experience teaching students of varying abilities as a class teacher, and SENDCo

Special Educational Needs are not only a professional focus for me, but also a personal one, as I am the parent of a teenager with multiple needs, including ADHD, ASD, and dyslexia. 

Why choose AC Tuition?

I offer personalised 1:1 sessions, conducted either in the comfort of your home or through virtual lessons.

Sessions are available six days a week, with Monday to Friday sessions scheduled not only after school and into the evening, but also a limited number of "Early Riser" sessions before school.

On Saturdays, I offer tuition between the hours of 09:00 and 15:00.

All lessons are tailored and meticulously planned according to your child's individual strengths and weaknesses.

The duration of each lesson typically ranges from 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the age and specific needs of the student.
